Trends are born from the runway each season, but don’t truly come alive until they’re taken to the streets. At Copenhagen’s SS23 Fashion Week, this theory was put to the test, and to no one’s surprise, this sartorial lot delivered. From outfits with a Western flare to suit vests galore, stylish showgoers showcased many a fall trend, but none stood out more than the playful punches of colour. According to this season’s street stylers, the best fall fashion colours in 2022 are bright and beautiful, from head-to-toe oranges and zesty lime greens to classic autumnal browns and greys. If you consider yourself more of a colour minimalist, let this be the season where you color outside of the lines and into your wardrobes.
Implementing dramatic colours into your outfits can be hard for some, but with easy-to-digest outfit formulas, you’ll be dressing like the Danes in no time. Starting strong with pacific ocean blue, this hue has been slowly taking over the runways the last couple of seasons, and it’s finally made its way to the street. Like this street styler pictured here, fade into the look with a tie-dyed tank top followed by a bright blue pant. Another award for the color of the season goes to deep orange. Style the eye-catching colour in a head-to-toe look, which includes Loewe’s It bag of the season, the Puzzle bag. Zesty lime has made its colour debut in the form of slinky dresses, menswear style blazers, and even accessories. Its close relative, mellow yellow, also made an appearance in fall maxi dresses and knitwear. Thanks to the rise of Barbiecore, hot pink is definitely having its moment, showing up on some of fashion’s chicest insiders. The hero piece? A pair of hot pink leather pants. For those wanting to step their toes in the colorful water, but in a more neutral fashion, classic autumnal tones like gray, vanilla latte beige, and browns were also on display. And because dressing in all-white is seasonless, there are off-white takes that feel more fall fashion forward.
Add a punch to your outfit this fall with street style’s standout colours of the season. Below, the 9 best fall fashion colours 2022 to start wearing now.
Pacific ocean blue
This bright blue hue has been trending on the runway for some time now and has finally made its way to the streets. Tackle two trends in one with Everlane’s tie-dyed tank top. If you didn’t already know, this has been the late summer and early fall all about the tank top. Pair with statement pants from Petar Petrov and sleek Bottega Veneta heels in the color ‘Aquarium’. Finish the monochromatic look off with Staud’s mini moon bag.
Burnt orange
Opt for orange this fall with a tangerine-hued cut-out top from Nanushka and a pair of Sandro jeans that will remind you of summer sunsets all season long. The vibrant colour can also be found on statement accessories like this It bag from Loewe and Amina Muaddi’s culty orange mules.
Zesty lime
A colour Pantone has defined as Lime Punch, this zesty lime was spotted all over the streets of Copenhagen this season in the form of slinky slip dresses, blazers, and even boots. Try out the citrusy colour in a full ensemble courtesy of Jacquemus, Helmut Lang, Balenciaga, and Marc Jacobs. If New York street stylers are to take a hint, we can expect several splashes of lime this upcoming fashion week.
Barbiecore pink
Barbiecore is everywhere this summer partly due to the upcoming Barbie film, but also thanks to Valentino and its FW22 collection, where 40 out of the 81 looks that walked the runway consisted of a monochromatic hot pink. The pink movement is anything but subsiding, showing up on the streets of Copenhagen and beyond. The hero piece of it all? A pair of pink leather pants from Remain Birger Christensen. Style the loud look with a paired town T-shirt from The Row and Gucci trainers. Jacquemus’ pink top handle bag is also a must, of course.
Vanilla latte beige
Neutral-on-neutral ensembles are best fit for those who prefer to shy away from the bright colours previously outlined. Colours resembling delicious vanilla lattes were spotted on several stylish street stylers last month, and while maybe more subdued, these outfits still brought the wow. Underneath a beige The Frankie Shop linen suit, place a barely there knit bra from Khaite in the colour Barley. Go one step further and carry Bottega Veneta’s mini bucket bag in Porridge.
Autumnal brown
Autumnal browns are as classic as it gets when it comes to the best of fall fashion colours. Elevate the hue ever so slightly in a pair of houndstooth flared pants by Stella McCartney. Atop, Totême’s tube top is a favorite on our fall shopping list. A pair of ladylike pumps from The Row ties the look together, while an ivory shoulder bag from Wandler contrasts the otherwise monochromatic ensemble.
Mellow yellow
Mellow yellows this fall are set to mimic the changing colours of the fall leaves, how romantic. From Tory Burch, a yellow floral drop-waist dress has us heart-eyed. For chillier moments, style it with a yellow mohair sweater from Isabel Marant, as seen here on this stylish Copenhagen street styler. Cowboy boots are another undeniable fall favorite trend; we like these from the Danish brand Ganni. For another yellow call-out, pull the look together with Hereu’s cross-body bag.
Dark grey
Another win for the minimalist’s out there is a standout, dark gray colour to sport this fall. We couldn’t do a fall trend roundup and not include a suit vest–this one is by The Frankie Shop. Pair the classic menswear style with a matching pant also from the Vogue-editor-favorite brand. Like this stylish showgoer, for footwear, find a PVC sandal from Neous and a sleek black bag by The Row.
Off-white
All white dressing is seasonless, but these fall whites are slightly off-set. Double the knitwear like this street styler and pair an Acne Studios knit sweater with a knit pant by Gabriela Hearst. Toughen up the look with a square-toe, lug-sole boot, and a suede bag from Khaite.
