Katrina Kaif is seen less on the red carpet and more in fashion campaigns. One can spot the actor adding endorsements to her kitty and working on her beauty brand, Kay Beauty. The 40-year-old, who recently became the global ambassador for RADO and UNIQLO, will soon be seen on the silver screen after a year, alongside Salman Khan in Tiger 3. All this activity in the fashion space, does give Kaif some authority and insider access to the fashion rule book. But is she establishing the return of neon with this dress?
A trend that originated during the era of facebook chats and BBMs, the everything-neon concept was shortlived, and could perhaps be considered a fashion ick for some now. But that was the consensus on ballet flats before Miu Miu brought it back from the dead. So, it definitely makes sense to weigh the merits of adopting this starkling hue into the wardrobes.

Neon pinks and yellows have become a popular choice among celebrities, like Priyanka Chopra (remember the Sabyasachi sequined sari in the same vibrant hue?) and Alia Bhatt. The colour made a prominent appearance in Gucci's SS24 (Sabato De Sarno's debut) and Fendi's SS23 collection. Styled by Lakshmi Lehr, the Kay Beauty founder's recent look served us major inspiration on how to do neon aesthetics the right way.
Katrina opted for a fluorescent yellow satin-crepe gown from the Australia-based designer Alex Perry. The dress in bodycon silhouette, features a tie-front that cinches the waist and creates pleats in the fabric, and a deep plunging neckline, along with elongating Katrina's physique. To draw attention to the neckline, a dainty necklace from FORO is added to the ensemble. Her wavy hair, by Amit Thakur, is tied up into a centre-parted ponytail with wispy tresses framing her face. The dress includes internal shoulder pads, constructed in such a manner as to not appear too prominent while still making an impact by drawing attention to the torso.
The “highlight” of the flattering dress, however, is the vibrant neon colour, which works in sync with the fluid fabric, to form a bold monotone ensemble that works for both minimalists and maximalists. If you are hesitant about using neon, then Katrina Kaif's monochrome look is a good reference to keep in mind. In such cases, it's best to have only the colour as the bold element in the outfit.
