From Madonna to Kareena Kapoor Khan—the craft of chikankari has found its place in celebrity styling across the globe. Most recently, Kareena Kapoor Khan wore a straight suit set by designer duo Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla who are eponymous with the embroidery in the country. Originally, the traditional white-on-white work was done by hand on muslin cloth and was patronised by Nur Jahan, Mughal emperor Jehangir's wife, in the 17th century.
This set on Kapoor Khan involves an ivory hand-embroidered kurta paired with a chikankari dupatta, accentuated by shimmering sequins, pearls, and stones. The look is completed with Rare Heritage jewellery that features elegant touches of jade green and Gianvito Rossi shoes.
In fact, Bollywood brides have also embraced the art in their bridal wardrobes. Consider a refreshing pant-suit worn by Athiya Shetty recently for her pre-wedding festivities, or Deepika Padukone's classic iteration of the handwork for her wedding reception.
