Vaani Kapoor’s midnight blue JJ Valaya sari clashes prints, patterns and palettes
The actor will convince you to give the hardcore festive colours a rest and consider the ebony palette

“Vaani personifies the JJ Valaya woman in a sari from our latest fall/winter 2023-24 couture collection, Baroda,” JJ Valaya shares, speaking of the outfit the actor wore for Navbharat Times Utsav 2023 in September where she was lauded with an award for her contribution to the Indian cinema. The Baroda outing is an expression of the veteran couturier’s love affair with quintessential Indian textiles and crafts. As this name suggests, it is an ode to arts and crafts of that region in Gujarat. Whether through the unusual shades or contemporary silhouettes, each look channels a royal splendour with a seamless fusion of edgy classicism and elegant modernity. And Vaani’s look forms a montage of this raw yet refined elegance. Ahead, Valaya shares intricate details about the printed sari. Keep reading.
Vaani Kapoor’s sari is complemented with a sensual blouse
“Vaani’s sari is in a signature Valaya midnight blue in dupion embellished using motifs in cut leather and fine beads and metallics. The same materials also find their way onto the slinky blouse in a variety of metallic hues,” JJ Valaya reveals. The beauty of this fabric also extends in the back—the textile features the same print but in a different powder blue hue, which gives a subtle contrast every time the wearer moves the pallu. Lightweight yet ornate, this sari resonates modern luxury to the core. “I’ve always advocated wearing saris as a natural drape, as for me they’re India’s answer to the western gown. From a cocktail evening to a glamorous Diwali party, you can style this sari for years to come,” he goes on to elaborate.
Vaani Kapoor paired her look with earrings by Amrapali Jewels
Vaani Kapoor went the minimal route with accessories, pairing her six-yard with nothing but a pair of studs and a bracelet by Amrapali Jewels. “Vaani proves the power of minimalism with her choice of jewels. She’s wearing our studs along with a bracelet, both encrusted with uncut diamonds. The allure of uncut diamond pieces dates back to the Mughal era and there’s no denying its timelessness and relevance even today. You can wear earrings and a bracelet, like Vaani’s, with a traditional outfit just as easily as you can with tailoring. If you’d rather amp up your Indian look, an uncut diamond choker and a metallic clutch is all you need,” adds Tarang Arora of Amrapali Jewels.
