Kajal Aggarwal’s black Varun Bahl sari marries Indian crafts with Western sensibilities
The actor’s look is your answer to an all-year-appropriate drape

No hue is more perennial to default than black. Synonymous with sensuality, attraction and empowerment, it has been enshrined in fashion lore for decades, and for good reason. Whether a demure look or daring, daytime occasion or evening, black is a fashion formula that never falters. It is why season after season designers roll out a conveyor belt of fresh silhouettes and styles that warrant our attention. “Black is a timeless choice, for women and men alike. In every collection I design, the colour black plays an essential element and I, for one, have always been a huge fan,” Varun Bahl shares. With his latest edit, the New Delhi-based couturier is one to point to its power when it comes to the traditional wear side of our closets too. Kajal Aggarwal’s ebony sari is made of weightless textile
“Kajal is resplendent in this black badla sari from my ‘Inner Bloom’ couture collection. The sari is made using a soft net fabric; making it an effortless choice. The lightweight canvas is elegantly crafted with gold and rose gold badla embroideries, which is further adorned with bugle beads and sequins to render themselves as beautiful floral motifs. Saris have always been an evergreen choice of ensemble in an Indian woman’s wardrobe. But what makes this one even more special is that instead of just a blouse, this sari is paired with a stunning black bodysuit with sheer sleeves, which makes it a wonderful choice for all types of events. The set is completed with a printed underskirt,” shares Varun Bahl, elaborating on Kajal Aggarwal’s exquisite look.

While the south star’s bejewelled bodysuit didn’t require extra adornments, she opted for a stunning layered navratna necklace by Minerali. Speaking of accessorising, Bahl is on the same page, adding, “This bodysuit sari can just be paired with heavy earrings to further enhance the silhouette.”
A black sari, like an LBD, can be styled for every outing, be it festive or formal. It is an all-in-one-outfit styling salve that almost always guarantees your spot on the best dressed list. “Not only does this black badla sari feature delicate, handcrafted embroidery all over, it is also paired with a bodysuit that makes it a unique and trendy choice for occasion based couture. With its evergreen design and workmanship, it is definitely a piece that one will go back to again and again. The deep black hue and full sleeves also makes it a wonderful ensemble for winter festivities,” concludes Bahl.
