Corsets have come a long way with being more than just a Victorian-era throwback. From their controversial compression of women's waists causing discomfort, today, they symbolise a shift towards empowering bodies and defying societal expectations. No longer confined to the costumes, the waist-cinching piece have been rewriting their narrative with their silhouette. In Bhatt's ensemble the corset was paired with a pre-draped skirt and incorporated a front slit, drawing references from the negligée-inspired style. The embroidery displayed a fusion of Chikankari and zardodi art intricately woven into the fabric.
Bhatt's custom attire was part of Khanna's Indian Couture Week '23 Collection, highlighting Kinkhab brocade, sheer fabrics, and satin in various shades of white. The ensemble is completed with a long satin train as an extension of her sari's pallu.
The rise in popularity of pre-draped, or concept saris, reflects a significant cultural shift in the fashion landscape. Indian designers like Tarun Tahiliani, Rahul Mishra among others have incorporated it into their collections. Brands such as Ituvana and Bodice have also introduced their own distinctive versions. Katrina Kaif wore a concept sari from Tarun Tahiliani's 'After Hours' collection in a striking red silk chiffon fabric. Shanaya Kapoor followed suit, presenting a signature concept sari from Tahiliani's Autumn/Winter 2022 couture collection titled 'Painterly Dreams.'
This whimsical fit was complemented by a minimalist approach to jewellery, featuring only a pair of diamond-encrusted chokers from Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas. As for the makeup and hairstyle Bhatt championed her recurring naturally bronzed and glowy look with a subtle touch of metallic eyeshadow that matched the intricate embroidery of the outfit.
