Delhi-based Ikisvon Jamang’s style fluctuates from edgy to hyper-feminine and everything in between—a mix of her aunt’s nostalgic ’90s closet and her own thrift finds from transiting style eras ranging from the Tumblr-girl aesthetic to the recent quiet luxury wave. Born in Imphal, Jamang’s style is reflective of the social climate.
The 26-year-old recalls having a punk phase in her teenage years and later exploring the Y2K resurgence through her north-eastern identity. Thrift culture feeds the Y2K movement and influences the north-east’s burgeoning fashion scene. It is through this that Jamang found her knack for repurposing out-of-season clothing into street style.
“Whenever I visited Imphal, I would watch my aunt, who was heavily influenced by Korean culture and Japanese Harajuku, dress in a certain way. It’s where my interest in clothing began,” she says. Jamang has earned herself collaborations with brands such as Gentle Monster and represents the shift in the youth culture of the north-east, where a new generation is finding their expression through fashion.
